The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has “announced legendary musician, Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia, as its National Fire Safety Ambassador.”

The fire service announced the appointment during the closing ceremony of its “2025 National Fire Safety Week on Friday.”

The closing ceremony was the climax of the five-day awareness campaign, which “mobilised Nigerians nationwide under the theme: ‘Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality.’”

In a press statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson and Head, Corporate Services, DCF P.O. Abraham, on Friday, the service recounted how the week was spent “urging the public to embrace personal responsibility, early hazard reporting, and proactive prevention habits.”

During the event, the Controller General of the Service, Samuel Adeyemi, represented by the Deputy Controller General, Aliyu Tambari, “formally acknowledged the musician at the Service’s Headquarters in Abuja,” where the musician was urged to “leverage his platform to drive a new wave of public consciousness regarding fire prevention.”

Tambari said: “In a special category, I must also acknowledge the nominee of the National Fire Safety Ambassador award, 2baba Idibia. His willingness to lend his voice and influence to this nation is commendable.”

Tambari added: “As a national fire safety ambassador, we expect him to champion behavioural change, amplify public awareness, and inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety. His platform gives him the ability to connect with millions, and we are confident he will use it to promote responsibility and vigilance towards prevention.”

The FFS partnership with 2Baba began earlier in November after the musician “visited the CG.” According to the agency, the purpose of his visit was to “request the Service’s technical support for ensuring the safety and emergency preparedness of his 25th-anniversary concert, ‘The 2Baba Experience.’”

In response, the service “announced a strategic collaboration with the entertainment industry to strengthen public awareness of fire prevention, starting with the concert.”

During the visit, 2Baba reportedly “expressed appreciation to the CG and the entire Service for their professionalism and readiness to partner with the creative industry,” noting that “safety must remain a priority wherever people gather to celebrate.”

2Baba was quoted as saying: “Music brings people together, but safety keeps the joy alive. Working with the Federal Fire Service gives me confidence that this celebration will be memorable, safe, and inspiring for everyone.”
