Cloud Energy Photoelectric Limited has commissioned a 50 KWhz Solar Mini-Grid at Namu, Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State in furtherance of its strategic partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The project commissioning, which threw the community into a festive mood, is said to have brought an end to 20 years of darkness in the community.
Jubilant residents of the community expressed the hope that the project will return the community to the path of economic growth.
The Managing Director of Cloud Energy, Theophilus Nweke, explained that the company committed huge financial and human resources to making the project a reality in view of the urgent need to unlock the rich potential of the community.
According to him, Namu is home to 50 rice mills, and expressed the hope that mini-grid would power all the mills.
Nweke, however, observed that there was an urgent need to scale up the Namu solar mini-grid to two megawatts in order to enable it play a more significant role in the industrial development of the rural communities in Qua’an Pann and Plateau State at large.
Addressing the leaders of the community, the Managing Director of the company said the commissioning of the project has finally brought an end to darkness in the community, describing the development as a new era of reliable and steady power.
In his contribution, the Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency, Abubakar Abba Aliyu explained that the African mini-grid programme is a flagship initiative designed to support access to clean energy and promoting large-scale investment in renewable energy in Africa.
He stated further that the project is not just a power installation but also a symbol of transformation that will light up homes, power our businesses and create new opportunities for people and farms in the community.
He expressed confidence that the future of the renewable sector is full of hope, saying the State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has assured that renewable energy would receive priority attention under his administration.
