Vice-President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 7th African Union–European Union (AU–EU) Summit held in Luanda, Angola.

Sources reports that Shettima had departed South Africa for Luanda on Sunday, shortly after attending the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

At the AU–EU meeting, the Vice-President delivered President Tinubu’s message, where the Nigerian leader renewed his demand for Africa to be granted permanent, veto-wielding seats on the United Nations Security Council.

President Tinubu, in the speech read by Shettima, insisted that the current global governance system is obsolete.

He urged the European Union to co-create Africa-led peace and security frameworks, noting that sustainable stability on the continent requires stronger partnership anchored on African initiatives.

Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace, democratic governance, and security across Africa, while strengthening collaboration with the EU for a more just global order.

Earlier at the first session of the G20 Summit, Tinubu, represented by Shettima, asked world leaders to design a more equitable system for managing global financial flows and tackling recurring debt crises.

He argued that current multilateral structures no longer reflect modern geopolitical and economic complexities.

At the third session of the G20 Summit, Tinubu called for global policies that ensure African communities hosting critical minerals benefit directly from processing and value addition.

He also supported the establishment of global ethical standards for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure technology drives inclusive development worldwide.
