Following President’s directive to withdraw police protection from VIPs, Senator Aliyu Wammako has voiced strong opposition, warning that such a move could put high-profile individuals at greater risk. During a Senate session at the National Assembly in Abuja, he stated, “I have to disagree with the idea of withdrawing police from VIPs, that is another danger because the VIPs are going to be the next target.”
The senator also stressed that the government must take a firm stance against bandits, insisting that Nigeria should never yield to criminal elements. “Nigeria should not submit to them; instead, they should submit to Nigeria,” he added.
In addition, Senator Wammako called for a review of the security details assigned to retired military officers, describing the current arrangements as excessive. He emphasized that, like other VIPs, retired officers require protection but it should be appropriate and not overly extensive.
