MTN reaffirms commitment to gender equality at LAIF Creative Conference

MTN Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality and the advancement of women in the creative industry as the company took an active role at the Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival (LAIF) Creative Conference held in Lagos.

Speaking during the event, Kate Daniels, Senior Manager, Sponsorships and Alliances at MTN, said the telecommunications company has consistently supported the LAIF Creative Conference and remains deeply invested in conversations that push the industry forward.

“MTN has been a staunch supporter of the LAIF Creative Conference for years,” Daniels said. “This year is no different. Beyond sponsoring, we are also lending our voice to the discussions. I’ll be speaking on the panel that focuses on Women Redefining Creativity.”

Daniels noted that the topic aligns with MTN’s deliberate strategy of promoting gender equity within its leadership structure.

“For us at MTN, it is an intentional approach. We have ensured strong representation of women within our leadership team. This is not accidental; it is a journey we began about five years ago, and we continue to infuse competent women into key leadership roles across the business.”

Asked whether women can excel when given the same opportunities as their male counterparts in the creative sector, Daniels responded with confidence.

“Most certainly. Women have always had the capacity. The world is just paying more attention now,” she said. “In Nigeria, women are leading multimillion-naira organizations across finance, technology, and the creative industries. They stand toe-to-toe with men and display exceptional competence.”

Daniels also challenged stereotypes that marriage, pregnancy or family responsibilities limit a woman’s performance or potential.

“Female empowerment is not a campaign. It is a culture,” she emphasized. “A woman is multi-dimensional. She is a wife, a mother, a sister, a colleague. Empowerment must capture all those dimensions, her confidence, her vulnerability, her ambition, and even her shortcomings, because she is human.”

She argued that the ability of women to balance these roles while still delivering professionally should be celebrated.

“It is not a limitation; it is an addition. If a woman can manage all of these and still excel, I take my hat off to her.”

The LAIF Creative Conference brings together stakeholders from advertising, media, and the creative industries to discuss innovation, leadership, and the future of creativity in Nigeria. MTN’s presence at this year’s edition underscored its continued investment in empowering women and shaping industry conversations.
