Gov. Adeleke signs technology and energy bill into law

 

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially signed a technology and energy bill into law, declaring that Osun is rapidly becoming a hub for investment, innovation, and opportunity.

During the signing ceremony at the government house in Osogbo yesterday, Adeleke emphasized that his administration is committed to not only building infrastructure but also advancing technology and digital economy initiatives.

“We are opening up the electricity sector to facilitate investment and enhance consumer satisfaction. Under our leadership, Osun is establishing itself as a leader in environmental sustainability, technology innovation, and energy diversification,” he stated.

The governor highlighted several initiatives aimed at enhancing governance through digital applications. He noted the establishment of the Osun Investment Portal, the 45-day Certificate of Occupancy application process, and a unified, digitized annual tax billing system. He announced the expansion of digital access via the Imole free Wi-Fi initiative.

Adeleke also revealed plans for a 20-hectare Osun Digital City designated for startups and digital enterprises, aimed at creating innovation parks and digital hubs. “These improvements are making government operations faster and more responsive,” he said, referencing the Osun One initiative, which serves as a one-stop shop for all government processes and enhances service delivery.

He said security has been strengthenes through the 293 AI-powered emergency centers, the Safe City Initiative, and the Security Trust Fund.

Adeleke expressed his commitment to preparing the next generation by implementing ICT training and annual innovation challenges to foster entrepreneurship and job growth.

He directed the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy to deploy containerized solar-powered Imole EduPods across the state, enhancing children’s exam preparation and promoting digital inclusion. He also announced the establishment of the Osun Tech Trust Fund to finance these initiatives and strengthen the startup ecosystem.

“I am excited to announce the Osun Tech Festival, scheduled for February 19-20, 2026. This event will showcase our youth’s creativity, connect local innovators with global partners, and position Osun as a premier destination for technology and enterprise,” Adeleke added.

Hon. Azeez Badmus, the governor’s special adviser on innovation, science, technology, and digital economy, noted that the Osun Tech Hangout is a first for the state. He emphasized the importance of fostering digital connectivity and creating supportive innovation spaces for collaboration and growth.

“Equipping our youth and future innovators is a priority. Targeted ICT training and skills development programs are essential for preparing the next generation for success in a technology-driven economy. These initiatives create pathways to economic opportunities, entrepreneurship, and sustainable careers,” Badmus stated.

“We are committed to building an environment where startups and innovators can thrive, providing them with the necessary guidance, mentorship, and resources to succeed across Osun,” he concluded.
