The Board of Ecobank Nigeria has announced the appointment of three (3) independent non-executive directors. The highly experienced professionals who have distinguished themselves in their various careers, include Mrs. Taba Peterside, Mr. Yusuf Suleiman and Alhaji Abu Idris.

Mrs. Taba Peterside has over 33 years’ experience in the Nigerian and International banking, financial services and the capital markets. She started her career at the Nigerian-American Merchant Bank before holding several senior management positions at Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited (now Stanbic IBTC), Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation and International Finance Corporation, Ghana. She was a General Manager at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE); Founder and CEO of Waveline Growth Partners, a micro credit company in Nigeria; served on the board of Nigerian International Securities Limited; member of Governing Council and Chairperson of the Finance Committee at the West Africa Theological Seminary.

She is also active in several not-for-profit organisations, including Women in Management , Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), where she has served on the Governing Council and on various committees. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors Nigeria.

Mr. Yusuf Suleiman is a banking and finance professional with over 26 years’ experience mainly in treasury, financial control, credit, and risk management. Yusuf started his career as a Financial Analyst at the former International Merchant Bank.

He served as Head of Financial Controls and Operations at Nigerian-American Bank Limited, Group Head Financial Services at Kakawa Discount House Limited and Group Head Treasury, Risk Management and Financial Control at Societe Bancaire Limited. He was at various times the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Citibank Nigeria Limited and Union Homes & Savings Limited respectively.

He was appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer for Intercontinental Bank Plc in 2009 and was responsible for the bank’s local and offshore subsidiaries, corporate treasury, financial control and strategy. Mr. Suleiman has also served as a Non-Executive Director at Intercontinental Bank UK, and Chairman of the Board, Intercontinental Microfinance Bank.  He was the CFO at Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc.

Alhaji Idris brings to the Board over 33 years of Central Banking experience, 23 of which were spent in the regulation and supervision of Banks & Other Financial Institutions under the purview of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Alhaji Idris, joined the services of the Central Bank of Nigeria as a Senior Supervisor in December 1984, upon the completion of the mandatory one year NYSC programme in August, 1984. He rose through the ranks before retiring as a Director in June, 2018 to pursue his private business interests.

While in the services of the Bank, he participated in several important assignments including the Bank Consolidation Programme of 2004-2005 and the Banking System Intervention Programme of 2009. Alhaji Idris  also served on several committees during his time at the Bank and was at various times the Chairman of the committees on  Electronic Financial Analysis System; the Banking Supervision Annual Report and the compilation of Compendium of CBN Letters/Circulars to Banks, among others. He was the Head of the Cross Border Group with responsibility for the supervision of the offshore subsidiaries of Nigerian banks  in Africa and other parts of the world.”
