The second edition of Teachers Naija, a Nigerian reality TV show, kicked off on Tuesday with 20 housemates poised to battle for the N2 million prize at stake.

The reality show, an initiative of Anub Media Limited, had its first season in 2019 where the winner, first and second runner up went home with N1.5 million, N1 million, and N500,000 respectively.

It, however, did not hold in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world.

The second season brings together 20 teachers — 9 males, 11 females — from around Nigeria, who will be together in a house located in Abuja from August 3 to August 22.

While in the house, the teachers will be made to participate in activities and tasks related to entertainment and education.

The show will be aired on DStv Channel 195 and GoTV Channel 97 from 8 pm to 9 pm every day starting from Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Teachers Naija on Monday, Enuagwuna Ubaka, the show’s convener, said the essence of the show is to reward teachers.

“We discovered that over the years, the teaching profession has been looked down on and these are the people that actually mold the future of our children. Other professions all pass through the teacher. So why is this noble profession looked down on?” he told TheCable Lifestyle.

Ubaka explained that winners of the show would be chosen based on their ability to carry out tasks and perform excellently well in the activities within the twenty days.

According to him, the winner of this year’s Teachers Naija will get a 2-bedroom flat in Abuja and go home with N2m, while the first and the second runner up will get N1.5m and N1m respectively.

The finalists will also get an all-expense-paid trip to Dubai.
