Funsho Adeolu has claimed that it is “dishonourable” for actors to participate in politics.

The film star aimed a thinly veiled dig at some of his colleagues when he was featured on the King of Talk podcast with Teju Babyface.

During the interview, Adeolu argued that an actor should not go into politics, claiming that politicians do a lot of “dishonourable things”.

The actor, however, did not provide sufficient evidence to back his claims.

“Trying to be known by force. Like doing everything to make sure that they build their Instagram followers. By buying big cars, and going to parties. By doing things that are not honourable and they are supposed to be role models,” he said.

When Teju Babyface asked Adeolu to explain what he meant by “dishonourable things”, Adeolu answered: “Like I am an actor now, I should not be seen fighting outside. I should not be seen answering everybody insulting me on social media.

“I should not be caught doing criminal things. I should not be seen talking nonsense on Instagram. I should not be seen doing politics. I do not want to say so many things because a lot of people will pick on it and say he is talking to me.”

Babyface also asked if Adeolu meant actors should not be in politics, and he replied: “Yes, adding that if you are an actor and join politics, you were never an actor”.

“I have never campaigned for anyone before. I was offered a lot of money and I said no. I do not need to. I had my fans that love me so much. I do not want them to not trust me again,” Adeolu added.

Over the years, Nollywood actors have been contesting for different political offices.

During the 2023 election, Funke Akindele contested as the deputy governor in Lagos state under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) while Femi Branch vied for the gubernatorial seat in Ogun state representing the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

Labour Party’s Olumide Oworu contested against Desmond Elliot of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Surulere constituency at the Lagos state house of assembly.
