Award-winning media host, UK-trained lawyer and actress, Folu Storms, at the recently held Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) press conference, shared her thoughts towards the highly anticipated 10th anniversary of the prestigious awards.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Folu reflects on her past success with the Showmax Nigeria Original Crime and Justice Lagos winning the Best TV Series award at the 9th AMVCAs. She also expressed anticipation for the upcoming event, emphasising the importance of the recognition that the awards ceremony brings to the African film and television industry.
“It was lovely to see the work that we put in over three months to shoot the six episodes being recognised in so many categories — from best in cinematography to best series, which we ultimately won. It’s very exciting. I was truly honoured, proud, and very pleased”, she said.
She continued, “I am always excited about the AMVCAs. I think it’s such a great opportunity to celebrate the multitude of talents that we have across the continent. Every year, I’m always excited to see which of my friends and colleagues will be nominated. This year is no exception, but of course, being the tenth year, it’s a landmark year for the AMVCA. So, I am definitely expecting big surprises. I am expecting a big celebration and I am just really looking forward to it.”
On the upcoming nominations, Folu hinted that she’s always looking forward to celebrating other talents. Whether she receives a nomination or not, she remains content. “Every year, I am just looking forward to celebrating with other people. It’s always an honour when you are picked out or your teamwork is picked out, that’s always beautiful but I don’t hold my breath about it. I do the work I do hoping that audiences will relate to it and connect with it. This is just another way of recognising that people are connecting with us.”
The AMVCAs promises to offer new opportunities and a memorable experience for all attendees for its 10th edition. The award ceremony will take place on May 10th and May 11th, 2024, and will be aired on all Africa Magic channels.
