AEDC threatens to disconnect customers with outstanding bills

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has threatened to disconnect debtors on its network who fail to clear their bills within 72 hours.

Data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission,NERC, shows that AEDC had about 1.4 million registered customers at the end of March 2024 across its franchise area made up of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states. The utility also has a 61.07 metering rate.

The company in a statement issued by its Head, Marketing and Communications, Adefisayo Akinsanya on Friday urged customers to adhere to payment deadlines.

According to her, AEDC “is notifying all customers with outstanding bills to settle their accounts immediately to avoid service disruption.

“To this end, customers who are yet to settle their outstanding bills within the next 72 hours, by Monday, June 3, 2024, will face disconnection of their electricity supply.

“AEDC emphasizes the importance of adhering to payment deadlines to ensure efficient and reliable service.

“The timely payment of electricity bills remains crucial for the continued operation and enhancement of AEDC’s infrastructure, which is essential for delivering uninterrupted service to the community.

“Deadline for Payment: All outstanding bills must be paid within 72 hours of this notice, by Monday, June 3, 2024,” she added.
