She got married to a Nigerian, Prince Henry Oduwole in 1993. Though Oduwole has departed the world, Wavinya refused to remarry.

She was previously a Member of Parliament for the Kathiani Constituency (2007–2013) and also served as Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports during that period.

She has academic credentials in computer science and related fields from UK institutions (including London South Bank University) and has held roles in IT and business before full-time politics.

Her political career includes multiple attempts at the governorship before finally winning in 2022, making her the first woman to lead Machakos County. As governor, she has been involved in infrastructure, water projects (e.g. Ngangani Dam), and community development initiatives in Machakos.
