Two men – Abubakar Sodiq and Ojo Gbenga, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 10 tubers of yam.
The defendants – Sodiq, 25; and Gbenga, 23, of unknown addresses, are facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct. 5 at about 2:00p.m at Abeope farm, Industrial Estate in Ikere-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants stole 10 tubers of yam valued at N30,000 belonging to the complainant, Odeyemi Sunday.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 295 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Dotun Omoteye, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted each of the defendants N20, 000 bail with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Nov.11 for hearing.
