Stephen Joseph emerged winner of the 2025 TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYBIGRCC) Induction Kitty in Abuja on Saturday.
ThemomentNG reports that Joseph returned a gross score of 65 and 65 net to clinch the top prize at the second edition of the event.
Makrop Datu, playing off handicap 20, scored 92 gross and 72 net to finish as runner-up, while Walter Egemba, with 94 gross and 77 net, came third.
In the ladies’ category, Sarah Nkwariza topped the inductee net leaderboard, played off handicap 25, scoring 90 gross and 65 net.
TheMomentng also reports that no fewer than 109 new members were officially inducted into the club during the event.
Maj.-Gen. Samson Jiya, Captain of TYBIGRCC, said the event was to welcome and integrate the new members.
“TYB is fast becoming the pride of Nigerian golf. We hosted this kitty to honour and educate our new members,” Jiya told NAN on the sidelines.
“Golf is not just a sport here, it is a platform for mentorship, discipline and social cohesion. We teach ethics, etiquette and what it means to be part of this family.”
He added that the club now has more than 600 members, with interest growing nationwide.
“This event is special because it’s the first of its kind. We are building not just a club, but a community of leaders and gentlemen,” Jiya said.
Retired Maj.-Gen. Godwin Umelo, a veteran golfer, advised new members to uphold the club’s values.
He said “golf is a game of integrity. At TYB, we practice equality. Once on the tee-box, everyone is equal.
“We expect members to be ambassadors of TYB and the military. Discipline and decorum are key.”
Ali Peters, Vice Captain of the club, said TYBIGRCC had quickly become one of the top golf destinations in the country, noting that “we started humbly, but now top players and elite Nigerians are flocking here. This turnout proves that TYB is the place to be.”
Francis Okosun, a Membership Committee official, said the induction process was rigorous.
He explained that “we interviewed and screened many applicants. Those selected met our high standards of conduct and commitment to the club’s vision.
“We want members who will contribute positively, not just to the club, but to the society through the values we uphold here.”
Some of the new inductees expressed delight for being part of the TYB community.
They said the induction experience was warm, informative and inspiring.
Highlights of the event included oath-taking, presentation of induction packages, a cocktail reception, meet-and-greet, a tour of the clubhouse and a putting competition coordinated by the Resident Pro.
