#FreeNnamdiKanu: Court grants Sowore, other protesters bail

A magistrate court in Abuja has granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist.
Also granted bail were Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s disengaged counsel, and 11 others.

Sowore was arrested by police on Thursday shortly after leaving the premises of the federal high court in Abuja.

The Sahara Reporters publisher was arrested for leading the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest to “restricted areas” in the city centre.

On Tuesday, the court remanded Ejimakor and 11 others for “inciting public disturbance” during the protest.

Others granted bail are Emmanuel Kanu, Joshua Emmanuel, Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, Godwill Obioma, and Chima Onuchukwu.

The 13 defendants were arrested on Monday at different locations in Abuja during the protest.

Abubakar Umar Sai’I’d, the magistrate, granted bail to Sowore and the other protesters with a sum of N500,000 each.

The magistrate ordered that the defendants present a verified national identification number (NIN).

They were also were asked to submit three-year tax clearance certificates and passports as part of the bail conditions.
