Spain’s preparations for their upcoming international fixtures have taken an unexpected turn after Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal withdrew from the squad.
Lamine Yamal had to withdraw from the national team squad due to a medical procedure carried out without the team’s prior knowledge.
In an official statement, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said its medical department was caught off guard when it learned that Yamal had undergone a radiofrequency treatment for pubic discomfort on the morning of November 10, the same day the national team’s camp was scheduled to begin.
“The Medical Services of the RFEF wish to express their surprise and discomfort after learning at 13:47 hours on Monday, November 10, the day of the official start of the national team’s training camp, that player Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure to treat his pubic discomfort that same morning,” the federation said.
According to the statement, the procedure was performed without prior communication with Spain’s medical staff. The federation said it only received details of the treatment later that night through a medical report recommending seven to ten days of rest.
“Given this situation, and always prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of the player, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release the athlete from this call-up. We trust that it can evolve favorably and wish you a speedy and complete recovery,” the RFEF added.
The teenager, who has been a key part of Spain’s recent international outings, will now sit out the matches against Georgia and Turkey as he recovers from the procedure.
