Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has joined Nigerians at home and abroad in celebrating the elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai as he marks his 100th birthday, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political evolution and a pride to Kano State.

Yusuf said Yakasai’s remarkable journey, spanning from the pre-independence era to the present day, stands as a testimony to courage, activism and an unwavering commitment to justice and democratic ideals.

The governor noted that Yakasai’s contributions to Northern Nigerian politics, his early struggle for the rights of the Talakawa under the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) and his decades of public service have earned him a permanent place in the history of the nation. He added that reaching the age of 100 was not only a personal blessing for the Yakasai family but also an opportunity for Kano State and Nigeria to reflect on the values of unity, patriotism and principled leadership that the centenarian represents.

Yusuf prayed for renewed strength, grace and good health for Yakasai, urging younger generations to learn from his courage, consistency and lifelong dedication to the welfare of the people. He further reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s respect and admiration for the elder statesman, describing him as “one of the last surviving architects of Nigeria’s formative political journey.”

As celebrations continue across the state, Governor Yusuf emphasised that Yakasai remains an example of resilience, integrity and national service.
