Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has passed away at the age of 60.
The tragedy occurred just hours after he reportedly collapsed in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa on Thursday.
According to Government House sources, the Deputy Governor was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where medical personnel made efforts to stabilize him.
Despite several hours of intervention, he was pronounced dead.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, a former lawmaker who represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District before becoming Deputy Governor in 2019, was widely regarded as one of Governor Douye Diri’s closest allies and a key figure in the state’s political landscape.
His passing marks a significant loss for the administration and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Further details are expected as the government prepares an official statement and funeral arrangements.
