The Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Political Matters, Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, has debunked reports claiming that the governor has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mwansat, in a telephone interview with Daily Trust on Thursday, clarified that while discussions are ongoing, Governor Mutfwang remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The political adviser dismissed claims that he was responsible for a confirmed defection, stressing that the governor is still weighing his political options.

“Discussion is on. Discussion is on is not the same thing with he has decamped. It is an option that is on the table. Discussion is in that direction. At the moment, he has not decamped,” he stated.

According to Mwansat, Mutfwang is currently consulting key stakeholders at various political levels before making a final decision.

Speculation about a possible defection has sparked heated debates between PDP loyalists and supporters of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, within the state.

Mwansat clarified, “When you said he has decamped, it means everything has been concluded. It means he has registered with the APC and resigned from the PDP. That has not taken place. That has not happened. I didn’t say Mutfwang has decamped.”
