Deputy Senate President mourns Senator Akwashiki

The Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Jibrin Barau, has mourned the passing of Sen. Godiya Akwashiki (SDP-Nasarawa North), who died in an Indian hospital.

Barau, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, extolled the virtues of the late lawmaker, describing him as a lawmaker of exceptional calibre.

Born in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon LGA of Nasarawa State, Akwashiki, who was first elected to the Senate in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, died at the age of 52.

Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, said that late senator throughout his sojourn in the Senate, exhibited a high sense of patriotism and commitment to the Nigerian project through his various contributions in and outside the Senate.

“Akwashiki was a parliamentarian par excellence who worked hard to enhance the standard of living of the people of Nasarawa North Senatorial district and beyond.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family, the entire people of Nasarawa North Senatorial District and Nasarawa State in general.

“May God grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
