A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Adeyemo, has emerged as the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Adeyemo was unanimously adopted as a consensus candidate at the party’s state congress, held on Tuesday at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.

NAN reports that the new chairman hails from Igboho in the Oke Ogun Zone of the state, in the Orelope Local Government Area.

He was the deputy governor to the late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi from 2011 to 2019.

Adeyemo was announced by Mr Afeez Bolaji, a former APC National Youth Leader and Secretary of the party’s ad hoc zoning committee, on behalf of the Congress Chairman, Hon. Amos Gombi.

Among the elected executive committee members is Olawale Sadare, who was returned as the party’s publicity secretary.

The state congress followed the successful ward and local government congresses on Feb.18 and Feb. 21, respectively, both of which were decided by consensus.

Sen. Teslim Folarin, APC chieftain and leader of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Oyo State, commended the APC leaders and other stakeholders for respecting an earlier agreement that leaders would emerge organically.

He lauded the efforts of the consensus ad hoc committee, chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, and the support of Ajimobi’s wife, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, in the success of the congress.

“We agreed that nobody would interfere with the results, and that is what we have done.

“The success of this congress, peace, and cohesion within the party show that we are ready to take over the government of Oyo State in 2027,” he said.

Also, a member of the House of Representatives, Remi Oseni (APC-Ibarapa East/Ido), said the success of the congress demonstrated the capacity and leadership qualities of President Bola Tinubu.

“The president has proven that he is a man who knows the road, with the capacity to lead,” he said.

“The congress is a build-up to our primary; the game has just started.

“It’s time to see champions and actors signifying their intentions,” he added.
