Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration will unveil a new City Gate for the capital city, during President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary celebrations.

Wike disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, after he inspected the project, being executed by Julius Berger, and other projects across the FCT.

He described the ongoing reconstruction of the city gate as the “brain child” of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

He said that the first lady had maintained that Abuja deserved “a better edifice than that pillar standing there as the city gate of the nation’s capital”

“She is right, because it does not show to people coming into Abuja that this is Nigeria’s capital city.

“We, therefore, engaged Julius Berger to do a new design, which we approved and the construction will be completed and handed over to us by the end of May.

“It will beautify the city and as you are coming in, you will say,  indeed, I have arrived in Abuja,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister also inspected several ongoing projects across the city, including the construction of the road to link Wuse II and the Central Business District.

He inspected the road construction from Bill Clinton Drive of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Tunga Madaki community and directed the contractor to extend it to Zuba.

Wike equally inspected the road linking Baze University, Body of Benchers, Nile University and the Wupa Light Rail Station in Idu Area, as well as the Office Annex for the Body of Benchers, which he said was about 85 per cent completed.

According to him, the projects would be completed and inaugurated during Tinubu’s third anniversary.

“This infrastructural drive is part of efforts to open up new communities and improve connectivity across the capital.

“As you might have seen,  residents of Tungan Madaki had welcomed the road project because it will link them directly to the city.

“When people are happy it means that you’re doing the right thing and this will encourage the government to do more for people to appreciate good governance,” he said.
