The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins, on Saturday appealed to Nigeria’s  political leaders to do more to address  security challenges and protect the citizens more.

Martins also urged Nigerians to place their faith in God for His intervention.

The archbishop  made the appeal in his Easter message to Nigerians, on Saturday.

He said that the country was undergoing challenges that required more efforts and sacrifices to tackle.

“We are aware of the harsh economic realities. Persistent threats to our security have sown seeds of fear and anxiety.

“I acknowledge these trials, and I carry the weight of your collective groaning in my prayers, knowing that the path many of you walk is one of immense sacrifice and endurance.

“It is precisely in this context of suffering and uncertainty that the message of Easter speaks most powerfully,” he said.

According to the archbishop, the Cross of Calvary- where Jesus Christ was crucified  – represents  profound suffering, injustice, and apparent defeat.

“However,  the resurrection is the ultimate testament that God is sovereign over every force of darkness, every economic downturn, and every threat to human life.

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, to place all trust in God. Do not let these challenges erode your faith.

“In your prayers, families, and parishes, find  strength from above.”

He sympathised with the families of the  victims of the recent terrorist attacks at  Angwan Rukuba, Jos, last Sunday.

Martins noted that the attack claimed no fewer than 27 lives.

“We condemn, in very strict terms, these persistent killings of innocent Nigerians. There is no justification for these unwarranted attacks.

“The policies formulated and the actions taken by those in power should place the welfare, security, and dignity of every Nigerian above partisan interests or personal ambition,” he said.

He called on public office holders  to make more sacrifices for the well-being of Nigerians, saying that Jesus Christ being celebrated at Easter, demonstrated sacrificial leadership.
