The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has banned signing-out activities in all schools across the state due to rising concerns over student behaviour.
themomentng reports that this decision was made public in a circular released on Monday by the Commissioner for Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam.
The notice was also sent to Governor Dauda Lawal, security agencies, school managements and other concerned groups.
The ministry said farewell activities organised by final-year students have recently turned into events where many students engage in misconduct and actions that go against the values expected in schools.
It noted that such behaviour does not align with the standards the state’s education system is meant to uphold.
As a result, all schools have been instructed to stop signing out activities with immediate effect. Authorities also directed schools to hold meetings with relevant stakeholders to ensure everyone is aware of the new rule and follows it.
Parents and guardians have been advised to warn their children against taking part in such activities. The ministry made it clear that anyone who goes against the directive will face punishment.
Teachers who support or allow such actions may be disciplined, with measures ranging from official warnings to suspension or demotion. Students involved may have their results withheld or cancelled, and in some cases, may be required to repeat their final year.
Security agencies and school security personnel have also been asked to monitor schools closely and ensure the directive is followed. Religious and community leaders were encouraged to guide young people and support the move.
The ministry added that the decision is part of the state government’s effort to maintain discipline, improve academic focus and promote proper behaviour among students in Zamfara schools.
