Bayelsa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Michael Magbisa, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with thousands of his supporters.

themomentng reports that his move became known on Wednesday through a post shared by former Bayelsa governor and NDC leader, Seriake Dickson. He said the development shows that more people across the country are aligning with the party.

Magbisa was received into the party by the Bayelsa State Chairman, Dauprebo Ikuromo, along with members of the state executive. The event marked his official entry into the NDC after ending his time in the APC.

Dickson praised the former commissioner for deciding to join the party and said the growing number of new members reflects rising trust in the NDC. He also noted that similar movements are happening in other parts of the country as politicians and their followers change camps.

He expressed hope that the party will be ready to compete strongly in the 2027 general elections, adding that it is building strength across different states.

The former governor also revealed that he held meetings earlier in the day with party members and leaders from different regions. Among those present was Chief Barnabas Ejisi, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North-Central zone, who came with a group of state chairmen after their own meeting.

Dickson commended their efforts in growing the party’s structure and encouraged them to keep working at the grassroots level.

He further disclosed that other politicians from different parties have also joined the NDC. Among them are Dr. Sidi Abdul Bomi Gulu, who was formerly with the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State, and Philip Johnson, a former governorship aspirant under the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Taraba State. Both joined with their supporters.

Dickson described the NDC as a party that is gaining attention across the country and called on Nigerians to register and become members as it continues to grow.
