The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State, is currently undergoing extensive renovation and reconstruction in a bold effort to reposition the Scheme’s infrastructure and enhance operational standards across the State.

The intervention, widely regarded as a strategic milestone, is aimed at improving Camp facilities, strengthening the welfare of Corps Members, and creating a more conducive environment for Orientation activities.

The transformation drive began shortly after the assumption of office by the Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, on January 9, 2026. Recognising the urgent need for infrastructural upgrades, the Coordinator initiated high-level engagements with key stakeholders, including government officials and the Executive Governor of Osun State, to mobilise support for the Scheme.

These consultations yielded two primary focus areas: the comprehensive renovation of Camp structures and facilities, and the proposed relocation of the NYSC State Secretariat to a more suitable and befitting location.

To further advance these objectives, the State Coordinator embarked on an extensive advocacy and familiarisation tour across all Local Government Areas between March and April 2026. The tour facilitated strategic interactions with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders, fostering collaboration and securing critical support for the ongoing projects.

A major turning point in the implementation phase occurred on April 12, 2026, when the Chief of Staff to the Osun State Government, Alh. Kazeem Akinleye conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the Orientation Camp alongside the State Coordinator. The inspection provided first-hand insight into the infrastructural state of the Camp and underscored the urgency of comprehensive rehabilitation.

Momentum for the project intensified on April 15, 2026, with the deployment of engineers and construction personnel to the site, marking the official commencement of large-scale renovation works across key sections of the Camp.

The scope of the ongoing intervention is extensive. At the male hostel blocks F, G, H, and K, works include complete roofing replacement, installation of aluminium windows, new doors, modern water closet systems, comprehensive plumbing upgrades, and the addition of burglary-proof fittings to enhance security.

Similarly, the female hostel block D and toilet facilities across other blocks are receiving full upgrades, including roofing, plumbing rehabilitation, installation of modern sanitary systems, and improved security features.

The Camp’s multi-purpose hall is also undergoing structural improvements, including a complete roof replacement and reinforcement of its extension to enhance capacity and functionality. In addition, the participants’ hall, which serves as staff accommodation, is being re-roofed to restore structural integrity.

In a move to improve ceremonial standards, a permanent saluting dais is being constructed as well. The facility, expected to be completed before the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 Orientation Course, will provide a standard platform for parades and official ceremonies while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the parade ground.

Speaking on the development, the State Coordinator, Mr. Ekeng Kubiangha, described the ongoing renovation as a long-overdue intervention that will fundamentally transform the operational landscape of the Orientation Camp.

He noted that the initiative reflects a shared commitment between the NYSC and the Osun State Government to prioritise the welfare, safety, and overall experience of Corps Members during their Orientation Exercise.

He further expressed optimism that the pace and quality of the work being executed would ensure timely completion ahead of the next Orientation Course. The Coordinator commended the Executive Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and members of his Cabinet and all supporting stakeholders for their responsiveness and dedication, adding that the upgraded facilities would not only boost morale but also enhance the Scheme’s capacity to deliver on its mandate effectively in Osun State.

Observers note that the scale and pace of the renovation reflect a strong commitment by the State Government and NYSC leadership to deliver quality infrastructure within a limited timeframe.

Upon completion, the upgraded facilities are expected to significantly improve living and training conditions within the Camp, boost morale among Corps Members and staff, and enhance the overall effectiveness of the Orientation programme in Osun State.

The proposed relocation of the State Secretariat further signals a broader vision to reposition the Scheme for improved efficiency, service delivery, and long-term sustainability.
