After 15 years at the helm of the world’s most valuable company, Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple’s Chief Executive Officer, transitioning to the role of Executive Chairman effective September 1, 2026.
Cook’s successor, John Ternus, 50, a 25-year Apple veteran and current head of hardware engineering, will take over as CEO. Ternus had previously been identified as Cook’s heir apparent.
Cook took over from Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011 and oversaw Apple’s growth into a multi-trillion dollar enterprise, expanding its services division and delivering record revenues across iPhone, Mac, and wearables.
