The Minister of Communications, Bosun Tijani has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving digital connectivity across police stations in Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement capabilities.

The agreement, signed with the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, and members of the board, focuses on expanding nationwide connectivity for police facilities under the government’s digital transformation agenda.

Central to the initiative is Project BRIDGE, which seeks to connect police stations to Nigeria’s national fibre backbone. The project is designed to enable secure data sharing across law enforcement units and improve communication efficiency between stations and central command structures.

According to the Minister, the digital upgrade will also prepare police institutions to leverage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence for improved incident response, case management, and predictive analytics. The aim is to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making within the security sector.

The initiative reflects a broader push by the Federal Government to extend digital infrastructure across public institutions, with emphasis on improving service delivery and strengthening national security systems through technology.

Bosun Tijani noted that a connected police force is a more effective one, stressing that the digital transformation agenda must include institutions responsible for public safety and national security.
