All is now set for the 2026 Annual Conference of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, by 10:00 a.m.
The conference, themed “Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology,” is expected to bring together key stakeholders across Nigeria’s maritime, logistics, and blue economy sectors to deliberate on emerging challenges and opportunities in port operations and technological advancement.
As part of activities lined up for the event, distinguished Nigerians who have made remarkable contributions to the maritime, logistics, and national economic sectors will be honoured with awards in recognition of their outstanding service, innovation, and impact.
Among the distinguished personalities slated for recognition are Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Prevail Farida Olayinka Ahmed, accomplished entrepreneur, humanitarian, and global advocate for peace and unity; Dr. Festus Nwiue, renowned marine surveyor, logistics consultant, and respected industry expert; and Chief Chukwumalu Emeka, accomplished freight forwarder and maritime stakeholder.
Other award recipients include Mr. Emmanuel Anda, Port Manager of Lekki Deep Seaport and notable figure in Nigeria’s port operations sector; Alhaji Olaide Olaiya, container logistics provider; Dr. Atoloye Adebowale Joseph, freight forwarding and logistics icon; Comrade Hannah Funmilola, Deputy President-General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN); as well as Abdullahi-Lagos Abiola, Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos Free Trade Zone Command.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Raymond Tedunjaiye, disclosed that all nominees underwent a rigorous screening process and were carefully selected for various award categories, including Most Distinguished Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Most Resourceful Port Manager of the Year, and Most Outstanding Port Infrastructure Personality of the Year, among others.
According to him, previous AMJON conferences have remained credible platforms for constructive dialogue on critical issues affecting Nigeria’s maritime industry and the broader economy.
He added that participants expected at the conference include representatives from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Police Force, maritime labour unions, terminal operators, and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
Tedunjaiye assured participants of an enriching and memorable experience, noting that this year’s conference promises to be more impactful and distinct.
Also speaking, AMJON President, Vera Osokpo, assured stakeholders that the association would maintain the high professional standards for which it is known as a leading maritime journalism body.
She noted that discussions at the conference are carefully designed to shape policy conversations and set agenda for the continued growth of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy sector.
Osokpo congratulated the award recipients in advance, describing the honours as well deserved, while reminding them that greater responsibility comes with recognition and excellence.
