The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant it additional time to conduct its primary elections.

The party said it would release its primaries timetable within the week despite ongoing challenges.

The National Organising Secretary of the party, Chinedu Idigo, made the appeal in an interview with Leadership on Friday in Abuja.

He explained that prolonged internal crises and legal disputes disrupted the party’s schedule, leaving limited time for preparations.

“The prolonged legal battle cost us valuable time. It is only fair that INEC provides a window for the ADC to conduct credible primaries for all aspirants,” he said.

Despite the setbacks, Idigo said the party is pushing ahead with its internal processes.

“We are working round the clock, and we will be releasing our primary timetable within the week,” he added.

The ADC urged INEC to ensure fairness in the electoral process by accommodating parties affected by unforeseen circumstances.

According to Idigo, the commission has a responsibility to create a level playing field for all political parties.

The party also disclosed that it has recorded significant growth, with over four million Nigerians registered through its online membership platform.

“As it stands today, the ADC is fast becoming one of the largest political platforms in Nigeria’s democratic history,” he said.

Idigo reaffirmed the party’s determination to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.

“We are fully prepared to dislodge the APC, regardless of whatever stumbling blocks may be placed on our path to victory,” he stated.

He also described the recent Supreme Court judgment on the party’s leadership as a major relief, noting that it has strengthened the ADC’s stability.

“We will continue to pursue policies that serve the best interests of Nigerians and work towards building a just and egalitarian society,” Idigo said.
