A former Chief Financial Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Umar Ajiyan-Isa, has formally declared his intention to contest the Sokoto East Senatorial District seat in 2027 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajiyan-Isa made the declaration on Sunday, during a consultation meeting with APC executives, stakeholders and other loyalists from eight local government areas of Sokoto-East senatorial zone.
He said the decision followed sustained calls from party leaders, political associates, and constituents across the district,urging to join the race.
According to him, the decision was driven by a commitment to deliver purposeful and impactful representation for the people of Sokoto East.
“This declaration is not driven by personal ambition or self-aggrandisement, but by a sincere commitment to uplift the people of Sokoto East through effective representation.
”I accepted the calls to facilitate development in our senatorial district and I am determined to make all the difference if given the mandate.
”I will contribute to efforts to address security challenges in communities in the zone if elected,” he said.
He appealed to supporters, stakeholders, party faithful, and people of Sokoto East to shun politics of bitterness and embrace issue-based engagement.
“Let us work together in peace and unity for the progress of our area, Sokoto State, and Nigeria at large,” Ajiyan-Isa said.
While appreciating the people of Sokoto East Senatorial District for their support and confidence in him, Ajiyan-Isa promised collaboration with stakeholders in the district for development.
In his remarks, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman in charge of Sokoto East Senatorial District, Alhaji Musa Sarkin-Alaro, commended Ajiyan-Isa for heeding calls to serve the zone.
Sarkin-Alaro described Ajiyan-Isa as leader committed to the uplift of lives in the district.
