Inter Milan were crowned champions of Serie A on Sunday night, May 3, after a commanding 2-0 win over Parma at San Siro.
Goals from Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the title with three matches still to play, giving Inter an unassailable 12-point lead over Napoli and a 15-point cushion over AC Milan.
Inter took control late in the first half when Thuram powered a right-footed finish past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
The second arrived in the 80th minute after Lautaro Martinez squared for substitute Mkhitaryan to finish calmly.
Blue and gold ribbons covered the pitch at full time as coach Cristian Chivu celebrated his first major trophy in management. Before kick-off he had insisted Inter wanted to “kill off” the Scudetto “as soon as possible”.
The triumph marks Inter’s 21st league title and completes a swift recovery from last season’s heartbreak, when they lost the title race by a single point and suffered a 5-0 Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Chivu, a surprise appointment last summer following the departure of Simone Inzaghi to Saudi Arabia, has revitalised the squad with a steady approach that has delivered 26 wins from 35 league matches. Inter have scored 19 goals in their last six outings.
The champions can still complete a league and cup double if they defeat Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on 13 May at the Stadio Olimpico.
