The member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory, Joshua Chinedu Obika, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
NAN reports that Obika’s latest move comes barely two months after he joined the APC from the Labour Party (LP) on March 11, 2026.
The earlier defection to the ruling party was reportedly aimed at securing a return ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Obika’s bid to secure the APC nomination was, however, unsuccessful. He was reportedly denied the party’s ticket to contest for a second term in the House of Representatives.
Following the development, the lawmaker has now aligned with the NDC. Obika is expected to receive an automatic ticket in the NDC to contest for re-election.
The move reflects the growing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as politicians reposition across party lines in search of viable platforms.
In other news, the Minority Whip of the Senate, Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC.
themomentng reports that Nwoye announced his defection on Wednesday in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, the senator said the decision was prompted by the ongoing internal crisis and legal battles affecting the ADC.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress and my intention to defect to the Nigerian Democratic Congress,” Nwoye stated.
