Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has been removed as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), hours after he spoke on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja on Thursday.

His removal was announced at an extraordinary meeting of approximately 20 APC governors, including those of Ogun, Bayelsa and Enugu States, held at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Thursday night.

The meeting was still ongoing as of press time and a new chairman of the forum is expected to be announced soon.

Governor Uzodinma, who has been Chairman of the PGF, publicly addressed the media and party faithful during the high-profile submission of President Tinubu’s forms earlier on Thursday. He spoke optimistically about the APC governors’ commitment to delivering victory for the President in the upcoming election cycle, praising Tinubu’s leadership and the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

However, sources within the meeting indicated growing dissatisfaction among some governors regarding Uzodinma leadership style, perceived closeness to certain power blocs, and handling of internal party dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections. The swift nature of the decision — coming mere hours after his prominent public role — has fueled speculation about internal power shifts and possible realignments within the APC.
