A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi has announced the zoning of its governorship slot in the 2027 General Elections to Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

The factional State Executive Committee (SEC) disclosed this in a communique issued by its Chairman and Secretary, Mr Onyemaechi Nwele, Mr Zaccheaus Ogbuefi, at the end of its meeting in Abakaliki on Friday.

According to the communique, the meeting was convened to deliberate on the forthcoming primaries of the party in the state.

It explained that the zoning arrangement was aimed at ensuring equity, justice and fairness.

It also mandated all the zonal leaders to ensure equitable zoning of the slots for both the State and National Assemblies in their respective zones.

“The SEC assured all our members in the state of fairness, equity and justice in the forthcoming party primaries,” the communique added.

It further warned all the aspirants to adhere strictly to the zoning arrangements and refrain from making utterances or taking actions capable of breaching the peace and unity at the grassroots.

“The SEC approved the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms to all the aspirants and assured them of a seamless exercise, in line with the timetable released by the Interim National Working Committee ((INWC) of our great party.

“The SEC assured all the aspirants in the forthcoming elections that the party will provide a level playing field to ensure transparency and strict compliance with the zoning formula, the party’s constitution and Electoral Act 2026,” the communique further stated.

The meeting also passed a vote of confidence in the INWC, under the leadership of Kabiru Turaki (SAN), the Board of Trustees, led by Sen. Adolphus Wabara, and the PDP Governors’ Forum, under the Chairmanship of the Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Reacting to the development, another faction of the party, led by Chief Chukwuma Igwe, said the zoning arrangement did not emanate from PDP, describing the pronouncement as fake.

Mr Emmanuel Ugbala, the Publicity Secretary of the factional South-East National Working Committee of the party, urged members and the general public to disregard the purported zoning.
