The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cleared former governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, to participate in the party’s governorship primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adebutu was said to have successfully scaled through the party’s mandatory screening exercise held at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, where governorship aspirants from across the country underwent verification and eligibility assessments.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Adebutu’s Media Aide, Mr. Afolabi Orekoya, who described the clearance as a major step in the build-up to the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State.

Orekoya noted that the successful screening reaffirmed Adebutu’s readiness and qualification to contest on the platform of the PDP in the forthcoming election.

According to him, the clearance has generated excitement among party faithful, supporters and stakeholders across the state.

He said: “The clearance has sparked excitement among party faithful, supporters and stakeholders across Ogun State, many of whom see it as a defining moment in the collective quest for purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance and a new direction for the state.”

Adebutu, a leading opposition figure and prominent PDP chieftain in Ogun State, is widely regarded as a strong contender in the state’s political landscape due to his grassroots appeal and longstanding involvement in democratic politics.

Some party stakeholders who spoke after the screening exercise expressed optimism that the next phase of the political process would further strengthen the growing support for his aspiration.

Observers within the PDP also maintained that Adebutu’s political experience, extensive grassroots network and commitment to democratic ideals have continued to enhance his standing within the party and among the electorate.

Speaking further, Orekoya said Adebutu remained committed to policies aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of Ogun residents.

“Hon. Adebutu has consistently maintained his commitment to advancing policies centred on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, infrastructure renewal and improved welfare for the people of Ogun State,” he stated.

With the completion of the screening exercise, political activities within the PDP are expected to gather momentum as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
