A Rivers State politician, Blessing Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Reports indicate that Fubara has already obtained the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the election.

Although he shares the same surname and local government area — Opobo/Nkoro — with the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, it remains unclear whether both men are related.

Confirming the development, the Rivers State Chairman of the NDC, Success Jack, said Blessing Fubara officially picked up his forms in Abuja and is among the party’s governorship aspirants.

According to him, the party is fully preparing to compete strongly in the 2027 general elections across Rivers State.

He said the NDC is determined to secure victory not only in the governorship election but also in other elective positions in the state.

Blessing Fubara recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC.

Speaking after his reception by the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, and other party stakeholders in Abuja, he described the NDC as a “moving train.”

He stated that his decision to join the party was motivated by the interest of Rivers people, adding that the state needs a new direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

Fubara further stressed that the future of Rivers State is important and expressed confidence that the state would witness positive changes after the polls.
