Tulsi Gabbard has resigned from her position as US President Donald Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, according to her latest post on X. She cited family reasons, specifically her husband’s diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer, as the reason for stepping down.

In her resignation letter, Gabbard said, “deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the last year and a half.”

President Trump confirmed the resignation in a post on his Truth Social account, saying, “Unfortunately, after having done a great job, Tulsi Gabbard will be leaving the Administration on June 30th.”

The post further read, “Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her.”

She will be replaced by Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas, who will serve in the role in an acting capacity.

Gabbard served in the US Congress as a Democrat for nearly eight years, from 2013 to 2021. A war veteran who served in the Iraq invasion, she later developed staunch anti-interventionist views.

After leaving office, she broke with the Democratic Party, and in 2020, she endorsed Donald Trump — whom she had previously been a strong critic of — citing his promises to end US military adventurism abroad as the key motivator for her decision.
