Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a deal to sign former England defender Kieran Trippier on a free transfer this summer.
Kieran Trippier, 35, has given a verbal agreement to join Molineux following his departure from Newcastle United when his contract expires. He is expected to sign a two-year deal, with an option for a further year, and would become Rob Edwards’ first signing of the window.
Trippier spent four and a half years at St James’ Park, making 160 appearances and scoring four goals. During his time on Tyneside, he played a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2025, their first domestic trophy since 1955.
Before returning to England, the right-back enjoyed a successful spell at Atletico Madrid, where he won La Liga in the 2020-21 season. He also reached the Champions League final with Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.
On the international stage, Trippier earned 54 caps for England, scoring in the 2018 World Cup semi-final and starting the Euro 2020 final before retiring from international duty in 2024.
Wolves are reshaping their squad after a difficult Premier League campaign that ended in relegation, with just three top-flight wins. The club are prioritising experience and homegrown balance as they plan a rebuild at Molineux.
Club officials believe the squad previously lacked leadership and players with a strong understanding of the club’s identity. Further changes are expected, with Jose Sa, Hwang Hee-chan and Ladislav Krejci all linked with exits, while Matheus Mane is set to remain after a breakthrough season.
