Three Arsenal stars have been shortlisted for the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award following the club’s Premier League title-winning campaign.
Midfielder Declan Rice, defender Gabriel Magalhães and goalkeeper David Raya are among the six nominees unveiled by the PFA earlier today, June 5.
They are joined by Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United and Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
Rice, Gabriel and Raya were instrumental as Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League crown. Haaland once again flaunted his goalscoring prowess, netting 27 league goals to claim the Golden Boot, while Cherki enjoyed an impressive debut season in English football.
Fernandes enters the race after a remarkable campaign in which he recorded a Premier League record of 21 assists and helped Manchester United secure a third-place finish. Earlier this month, the Portugal international was named Football Writers’ Association Men’s Footballer of the Year, an award often viewed as a strong indicator ahead of the PFA vote.
The PFA also announced the nominees for the Men’s Young Player of the Year award, with Cherki earning a second nomination. Manchester City team-mate Nico O’Reilly, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, Arsenal youngster Max Dowman and Liverpool prospect Rio Ngumoha complete the shortlist.
The winners will be announced at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on 25 August.
