Moniepoint Inc. has intensified efforts to bridge Africa’s engineering talent gap with the graduation of the second cohort of its DreamDevs Bootcamp, a programme designed to develop world-class software engineers.

The fintech giant celebrated the milestone on Monday at a Demo Day in Lagos with the theme, “Training Done! Demo Up!”

Participants at the Demo Day showcased technology solutions addressing challenges in real estate, healthcare, agriculture, food services and event management.

Speaking at the event, Moniepoint Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Felix Ike, described DreamDevs as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s digital economy rather than a recruitment initiative.

Ike said that some graduates from the first cohort had already joined Moniepoint’s engineering team, demonstrating the potential of young African developers when provided with quality training and industry exposure.

He noted that Africa’s digital economy continued to attract global investment, but warned that the continent’s talent infrastructure remained inadequate to sustain future growth.

“DreamDevs is a structural investment in Nigeria’s digital economy. It is proof that with the right training and environment, young African engineers can compete at the highest level,” Ike said.

According to him, the bootcamp is part of Moniepoint’s broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s technology talent ecosystem through capacity-building initiatives and partnerships.

Ike said that the programme complemented the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative by providing specialised training and a pathway from foundational learning to industry employment.

Industry experts estimate that the global shortage of software developers could reach 85 million by 2030, potentially triggering economic losses of about 5.5 trillion dollars.

Moniepoint said DreamDevs was designed to help address the shortage by building a sustainable pipeline of highly skilled engineers capable of supporting Africa’s growing digital infrastructure and fintech ambition.

The nine-week intensive programme, developed by Moniepoint’s Engineering Unit in partnership with Semicolon, equipped participants with practical skills in software engineering.

They were also trained in cloud infrastructure, system design, backend development and software testing.
