As preparations intensify for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, MultiChoice and CANAL+ have assembled a star-studded broadcast team to deliver comprehensive coverage of the tournament.
To guide viewers through an unprecedented 104 live matches, highlights and breaking reports, former England and Chelsea defender John Terry has joined the SuperSport team.
He will be joined by former France international Bacary Sagna, the accomplished right-back who enjoyed successful spells with Arsenal and Manchester City.
Also joining the panel is Roberto Di Matteo, whose achievements with Chelsea earned him legendary status as both a midfielder and manager.
Sibusiso Mjikeliso, SuperSport Senior Manager for Communications and Partnerships, expressed confidence in the broadcaster’s readiness for the tournament.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Mjikeliso said the entire competition would be available to DStv subscribers across all packages, from DStv Access to DStv Premium.
“This will make it the most accessible FIFA World Cup ever for MultiChoice Group customers in English and Portuguese-speaking markets,” he said.
The 2026 tournament will feature 48 nations, making it the largest and longest FIFA World Cup in history.
Africa is set to make history of its own, with an unprecedented 10 nations participating in the tournament across North America.
The scale of the event was highlighted by actor Idris Elba’s announcement that all 104 matches will be broadcast live on DStv and GOtv.
SuperSport’s studio team will feature some of Africa’s most accomplished football personalities and analysts.
Among them is Asamoah Gyan, Africa’s highest-scoring player in FIFA World Cup history, who famously helped Ghana reach the quarter-finals in 2010.
Former Côte d’Ivoire forward Salomon Kalou, a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations winner and UEFA Champions League champion, also joins the panel.
Current Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, who was named Most Valuable Player at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, will offer contemporary insight.
South African football icon Siphiwe Tshabalala is also part of the line-up.
Former Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo will provide defensive analysis, while Teko Modise brings his renowned midfield expertise.
Banyana Banyana legend Amanda Dlamini joins the team alongside broadcaster Phumudzo Manenzhe.
The panel is further strengthened by Stanton Fredericks, Shaun Bartlett, Jimmy Tau and Simphiwe Dludlu.
Leading the coverage will be acclaimed broadcaster Carol Tshabalala, widely known as the “First Lady of Sport”.
She will be joined by veteran presenter Thomas Mlambo and broadcaster Thato Moeng
The tournament will run from June 11 in Mexico City to the final on July 19 in New Jersey.
To complement its World Cup coverage, SuperSport is launching a new live daily programme, The Morning Cup.
The show combines football, culture, music, entertainment and topical discussion for viewers across the continent.
It will be hosted by SuperSport presenters Lwazi Ziqubu and Fiso Mazibuko.
The programme’s co-hosts include South African media personality Phat Joe, Nigerian comedian Basketmouth and Kenyan actress Sarah Hassan.
Egyptian-Jamaican sports presenter Sirayah Shiraz will also feature on the show.

The opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be broadcast live on June 11, with hosts Mexico facing South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on SuperSport.
