The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from purported lists of candidates circulating on social media for Imo, Abia, Anambra and other states, describing them as fake and unauthorised.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, urged members and the public to disregard the lists, saying they did not originate from the party’s national headquarters.

The NDC said it had already submitted the authentic list of candidates for the forthcoming elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the channels prescribed by the Electoral Act.

The party alleged that the lists were being circulated by individuals seeking to create confusion and undermine its internal processes.

It said investigations had begun to determine the source of the purported lists and the circumstances surrounding their circulation.

“The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement said.

“It is being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well. The party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party.”

The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its structures and maintaining party unity despite what it described as attempts to distract it from its objectives.

It also urged members to remain focused and united, saying it remained committed to building a political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
