The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has partnered with TikTok to launch a Digital Commerce Lab for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Lagos, marking a significant step toward strengthening digital skills and expanding opportunities for Nigerian entrepreneurs in the digital economy.

Representing the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, the Director of Stakeholder Management and Partnerships, Dr. Aristotle Onumo, emphasized the importance of digital platforms in modern commerce. He noted that the future of business is increasingly digital, and SMEs must leverage online platforms to access new markets, improve productivity, and drive sustainable growth.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement of a strategic partnership between NITDA and TikTok aimed at expanding digital commerce training for SMEs, particularly those operating in remote and underserved communities.

The programme includes a $20,000 pilot “Train-the-Trainer” initiative under NITDA’s DL4ALL network. The project will provide practical digital commerce training, learning materials, and facilitator guides designed to support SMEs across Nigeria.

Officials stated that the initiative is designed to build capacity within local business communities by equipping trainers who can cascade digital skills to wider audiences, ensuring broader national impact.

The Digital Commerce Lab is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy by enabling SMEs to better utilize online platforms for marketing, customer engagement, and business expansion.

Stakeholders at the event reiterated that the collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda, with a focus on inclusion, innovation, and job creation.

The initiative reinforces ongoing efforts by NITDA to support digital literacy and entrepreneurship, while positioning Nigerian SMEs to compete more effectively in global digital markets.

Overall, the partnership between NITDA and TikTok represents a growing trend of collaboration between government institutions and global technology platforms to accelerate digital skills development and economic inclusion.
