Nafisat, the estranged wife of popular Yoruba actor Akin Olaiya, has accused the actor of domestic violence and mistreatment days after he publicly announced the dissolution of their marriage.

She made the allegations in a viral video on Wednesday, reacting to a statement the actor released about the end of their union.

Olaiya announced the collapse of the marriage, claiming that Nafisat left their matrimonial home without his knowledge and that all efforts to reconcile had failed.

Responding to the claim, Nafisat confirmed that the marriage had ended but disputed the actor’s account of events.

According to her, she left the marriage a few months after the wedding due to alleged domestic violence and emotional distress.

“Last few months, I left my marriage because I’m in pain, I’m mistreated. I feel like I did not matter. And nobody is going to stay in a marital home that goes with violence,” she said.

Nafisat said the couple had been separated for a considerable period, contrary to public perception.

“All the things that they’re talking on social media about the divorce letter, yeah for real, me and my husband are not together anymore for like a long time ago, since last year,” she stated.

She questioned the narrative that she left the marriage without any reason.

“For those of you saying how can the wife just pack and leave when she’s not mad? When there’s violence and something is really going on that you don’t really know about, and I’m expecting a lot from my ex-husband when I was with him because he’s older than me,” she said.

While alleging that she experienced difficulties in the marriage, Nafisat said she would not publicly reveal all that transpired between them.

“The age gap is much. Yet everything was going down, and I can never come out to disclose the main issues in my marriage with him. That is what I can never do on social media,” she said.

She added, “What I’m trying to let you know is that it does not make sense for him to say she just packed her things and left without any issues. It can’t be possible. You guys should just think about it and see if it makes sense.”

Olaiya had earlier announced that the marriage had collapsed after several attempts to resolve the couple’s differences.

The actor claimed that his wife left their matrimonial home and remained unwilling to return despite interventions involving family members and reconciliation efforts.
