United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and employee wellbeing by mobilizing employees across its operations in 20 African countries for a continent-wide environmental clean-up exercise.

United Bank for Africa (UBA) staff members clean up their environment and community during the Bank’s quarterly wellness initiative, “Jogging to Bond,” on Saturday

The bank made this known in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

It said the exercise formed part of its quarterly “Jogging to Bond” wellness programme with the theme “The Power Within U”.

According to the statement, the event coincided with the 60th birthday of the bank’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Oliver Alawuba, who marked the occasion with employees.

It said the clean-up exercise was conducted simultaneously in cities including Lagos, Accra, Nairobi and Dakar as part of the bank’s environmental sustainability initiatives.

The statement added that the Lagos event featured fitness and wellness activities, including spinning bike sessions, fitness challenges, relaxation therapies and an exercise station hosted by iFitness.

Speaking at the event, Alawuba said the initiative demonstrated the bank’s commitment to teamwork, wellness and community development.
“There is no place I would rather be on my birthday than here, surrounded by the incredible people who make UBA what it is today.
“When we run together, serve together and work together to make our communities cleaner and healthier, we are demonstrating our shared values and commitment to the people and communities that place their trust in us every day,” he said.
Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, UBA, Ms Alero Ladipo, said the programme reflected the bank’s commitment to employee welfare and sustainable development.

She said the initiative promoted a healthy workplace culture, strengthened teamwork and encouraged employees to contribute to environmental sustainability.

According to her, the programme aligns with the bank’s Employee Value Proposition and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, which promotes wellness, volunteerism and responsible corporate citizenship across its operations.

UBA operates in 20 African countries as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, France and the United Arab Emirates.
