Veteran Nigerian singer, John Odafe Asiemo, better known as Daddy Showkey, has announced plans for a week-long celebration to mark his 56th birthday and 50 years as an artiste.

Speaking on the ‘Tochi Talks Diaspora’ podcast, Daddy Showkey disclosed that his birthday, set for August 4, will kick off a series of events.

The celebration, according to him, will feature a music concert in Ajegunle on August 8, followed by a grand finale at Eko Hotel and Suites on August 9.

“Celebrating 50 years on stage. I am looking at August. My birthday is August 4. That week of my birthday, a lot of things will happen. We will have a show in Ajegunle on August 8, and on the 9th, we will have one at Eko Hotels. That would be for everybody,” he said.

Born in August 1970, Daddy Showkey grew up in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State, where he rose to fame in the early 1990s. He became one of the biggest names in Nigerian music during the decade and into the 2000s, known for his signature ‘Galala’ dance style.

Daddy Showkey’s music, which explored themes of love, religion, and social advocacy, produced several hit songs including ‘Diana’ (1996), ‘Fire Fire’ (1991), ‘The Name’ (2000), ‘Ghetto Soldier’ (2011), and ‘Jehovah’ (2011).
