Former Senator, Ogun Central, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has said that her defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was a result of compassion and love for the good people of Ogun Central, saying that care and compassion are the bedrock of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP).

The senator made this known during a courtesy visit to her residence by the Liberty group, axis of Jelili Kayode Amusan Concerned Volunteers, held at the Obasanjo Hilltop in Abeokuta.

She said that her endorsement of various groups, in particular the Liberty group, was a signal of her performance and philanthropies to her constituents as a former Ogun State Commissioner for Health and former Senator, during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

“In fact, I like helping people and PDP as a party has always been a people-centered party, which further helps me to spread my philanthropic gesture to my constituents. And, I promise to integrate all the groups into our platform as well as assure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of my total support in the coming general election,” Obasanjo-Bello said.

She said that APC does not align with her vision for the people of her constituency, which prompted her to leave the party.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the group, Mr. Kazeem Adedoyin, said the group members cut across Ifo, Ewekoro, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode local governments, adding that their endorsement came as a result of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s landmark achievement when she served as a senator representing Ogun Central in 2007-2011.

While promising their total loyalty and support for the senator, Adedoyin disclosed that more than 95 per cent of their members have their voter’s card and were ready to vote en masse for Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello and Ladi Adebutu for governor during the forthcoming election.
