Ride-hailing platform inDrive has introduced a new Trip Audio Recording feature designed to provide an additional layer of safety for both passengers and drivers during trips.

The feature, now available through the app’s Safety Center, allows either the driver or passenger to manually activate audio recording during a ride. According to inDrive, the recordings can help provide context when disputes arise over incidents such as disagreements about pick-up locations, long waiting times or damage during a trip.

Unlike always-on recording systems, the company said the feature cannot activate automatically or record conversations in the background. Audio is captured only when a user chooses to switch on the feature.

To address privacy concerns, inDrive said all recordings are fully encrypted and cannot be played back, downloaded or shared by users. The company added that the encryption key is used solely when investigating official complaints submitted through its platform.

The company also said it does not provide the recordings to third parties, except where disclosure is required by law.

According to inDrive, the feature is intended to give riders and drivers greater peace of mind, even if recordings are never used during the course of a trip.

The Trip Audio Recording feature is available through the Safety Center within the inDrive app and can be activated before or during a ride.
