The Independent National Electoral Commission has launched an online self-service portal that enables eligible Nigerians to register for a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), transfer their voting location, update their details and replace lost or damaged voter cards.
The platform, part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, allows first-time voters to complete the entire registration process on their mobile phones, including biometric capture, without visiting an INEC office.
The commission introduced the portal after extending the nationwide CVR exercise by two weeks, moving the deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026, to allow more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.
How to register online
Eligible Nigerians can register through the INEC Self-Service CVR Portal by following these steps:
Step 1: Visit the portal
Go to the INEC Self-Service CVR Portal at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/online and select “Register Online.”
Step 2: Create a portal account
New users are required to create an account by providing:
- First name;
- Last name/surname;
- Mobile number;
- Email address;
- Password; and
- Completing the security verification.
Step 3: Verify your NIN
Applicants will be required to verify their National Identification Number (NIN) before proceeding with registration.
Step 4: Complete your biodata
Fill in the required personal information, including:
- Name;
- Date of birth;
- Gender;
- Occupation;
- Home address;
- Nationality;
- Email address;
- Mobile number;
- Educational qualification;
- Disability status, where applicable;
- State, LGA and address of residence;
- Place of birth; and
- State and LGA of origin.
Applicants may also provide an alias or maiden name where applicable.
Step 5: Choose your polling unit
Select your preferred:
- State;
- Local Government Area;
- Registration Area/Ward; and
- Polling Unit where you intend to vote.
Step 6: Upload supporting documents (if required)
Where applicable, applicants can upload supporting documents to accompany their request.
Step 7: Capture your biometrics
Online registration requires applicants to use the INEC mobile application to capture a passport photograph and fingerprints using their smartphone.
The portal provides a QR code and a link that users can scan or open on their mobile devices to continue the biometric capture process.
Step 8: Submit your application
After reviewing the information provided, submit the application through the portal.
Other services available on the portal
Apart from fresh registration, the portal also allows users to:
- Review previously submitted information;
- Apply for transfer to another polling unit;
- Update or correct personal information;
- Locate where to collect a PVC; and
- Apply for a replacement PVC if the original card is lost, stolen or damaged.
Alternative pre-registration option
Applicants who prefer not to capture their fingerprints on a mobile phone or who do not yet have a national identification number can opt for pre-registration.
The process involves:
- Completing the pre-registration form online;
- Booking an appointment for biometric capture;
- Printing the application slip;
- Visiting the selected INEC registration centre for fingerprint and photograph capture;
- Tracking the application online;
- Receiving notification when the PVC is ready; and
- Collecting the PVC.
According to INEC, the pre-registration system reduces the time spent at registration centres because applicants would have already submitted their biodata online. It also enables the commission to manage the number of expected registrants at each registration centre.
